What if I told you that the everyday moments you share together, those unscripted, honest moments, hold clues to who your children will become?

The beautiful thing about children is that they aren't yet trained by society, or expectation or responsibilities so they exist with such expressive freedom.  My work is about celebrating and honoring the character of each child and creating art from their world

There are only about 20 or 30 faded Kodak photos spanning my entire childhood.  The images were snapshots into my world as a child and were a depiction of how I experienced the environment around me.  As a grown up (I use that term loosely), these few photos definitely helped me to make sense of my life.

We all know that every single child is so incredibly unique and often very different to their sibling. You may have the tidy child, the messy, the bossy and the sensitive.  The curious one, the scientist, the rule breaker and the day dreamer.

Through documentary photography, I capture the fleeting moments, that reveal the essence of who your children are today, so that in the future, if they ever feel lost or disconnected, you can show them images of who they were born to be.  Who they are without the outside influence of todays slightly crazy world.

My Day In The Life sessions give you the space to just be. There’s no need for posing or perfection. I spend a full day with your family, integrating into your routine, whether it’s breakfast chaos, Saturday sports, visiting the supermarket, or those quiet evening moments.

The result is a photographic anthology that reflects the beauty of your everyday life.

Unfiltered, untamed, honest and real.

These images aren’t just memories. They’re a visual articulation of who your child is at their core. And one day, they’ll look back and see not just who they were, but who they’ve always been.

“Today you are You, that is truer than true. There is no one alive who is You-er than You.”

What is a Day in the Life session like? Wouldn't it be weird to have someone follow us around?

It sounds odd, but after a while you will kind of forget what I am there doing.  I'm a playful introvert by nature so I promise it won't feel awkward.  I will take breaks from my camera from time to time and chat away, but while I am creating,  I am just in the background as I want you all to be as yourselves as possible.

What makes my shoots different?  Why documentary?

I can only capture in the way that I see the world.  It's hard to explain because how does a fish describe what water feels like?

I only create photos that tell a story or captures a moment, something that posed photos simply can't contain.   I'm not only capturing a moment in time, my goal is preservice a feeling.    Your photos become a visual history for your family, showing your children who they were as they grew and giving them a sense of belonging. When they look back years from now, they won’t just see staged smiles, they’ll see the way they moved through life, the love that surrounded them, and the person they were becoming.

Documentary photography is quite special because a powerful image will retain an emotional connection within it.  You know that feeling you get when you look at your old photos?  How a pang of longing appears in your chest as you look at photos and back into your childhood living room?  How the song that reminds you of your first crush hits you.  Nostalgia is a beautiful feeling and one that needs to be revered and created.  With documentary photography you gift the powerful sense of nostalgia for your child's future self.

Nostalgia 'bookmarks' are everywhere in the family home.  It's in the books scattered on the floor, the fingerprints on the walls, receipts and cards on the fridge, the stains on the carpet from unsupervised drinks and the single Lego piece in the background, innocently awaiting its next bare footed victim.

How can documentary photography benefit my family?

Family documentary photography is not just for you (mum and dad), it is for your child's "future self".

My work is about visually preserving/documenting a snapshot of the child's development of 'self' '.  Children are innately attuned to being themselves and expressing who they are.  They freely express frustration, anger, love and curiosity.  Their sense of self is authentically displayed through the pure nature of 'youth'.

A family Day in the Life session will provide you with an album you can treasure.  Documenting the family home environment through photography is about preserving the experience for them to appreciate in the future.

Or, if you wish, keep safe for your children for years to come.  A book that they can hold in their hands and look into with new eyes as an adult or even a parent themselves.  It is for the time in your child's life when they want to appreciate, reflect or learn about their life and how they were before they became who they are.

It may also allow you to see your family from a new perspective.  How your partner demonstrates their affection or attention to you, how your children look at you.  How presence shows up within your family.

It's a visual time capsule of moments in time, within a day in their early life.

What if I have a challenging kind of family? Or my partner hates their photos being taken?

All of you is welcome. The more real and open the better.  As long as your are ok, I am ok.

I will never make you look through my lens, pose or perform...and I would absolutely love you to leave dishes on the bench.

There are no judgements here, I am just there as an artist to witness and create your story.

Over the past 18 years I have worked with all sorts of family in all sorts of situations. Nothing phases me.  Neuro-diverse, shy, loud, tidy houses, or messy, as humans we are 'all things".
